The Hannigs hit the slopes

We decided to get our kids on skis this year...to prepare for a Spring Break trip to Lutsen, MN with 4 other families.  Paul's quote perfectly summed up the experience of skiing with three little kids who had never been on skis before..."It's a lot of hard work, but at least it's expensive."  Hahaha. Let's start with pictures from the weekend *before* Spring break.  We took a trip to Powder Ridge in Kimball to see what this skiing was all about for the kids (Paul and I have skied before, but not in about 15 years).  Meredith had an individual lesson at 4pm and the boys were going to jump into an hour long class at 5pm.  Benny didn't make it that long.  He made it about 35 minutes and then was done as you can see from the first picture below.  :)  I was really proud of Luke.  He went into the class by himself, no Ben and no mom or dad, and by the end of the class we saw him riding up the ski lift with the instructor...virtually a complete stranger.  He ca

A post from December I never quite finished - Rubicks cubes!

Luke taught himself to solve a rubicks cube (all the sides, not just one side) by studying a YouTube video for over a month. He figured out the algorithms and solved it by himself without a video on December 9th. We don’t know what’s more impressive - that he can solve a rubicks cube in about one minute as an 8 year old, or the remarkable determination and dedication he had to teach himself. His math teacher can solve them and during math class all the third grade kids would bring him their Rubicks cubes to solve.  He would have 30 of them lined up to solve during his math class.  Now that Luke (who is the only kid in his elementary school) can solve it, Mr. Teisinger has delegated some of this workload to Luke. :)  He even had Luke come to the front of the class and demonstrate how to solve it by putting it under the document camera that feeds the smart board.  So in front of the entire class, it was shown on the big screen and according to his buddy, Liam, Luke speedily solved the Ru

Luke, you got your 3rd grade Spring pictures back from school.  I love them! You said, "I just don't like the background."   And Ben yelled "WHAT?!?!  I *LOVE* the background. Those flowers are awesome!" Another example of your unique an d different personalities.  Brothers from the same parents.  :) And the following week Ben got his pictures...so I'm editing this post to add his picture.
