A post from December I never quite finished - Rubicks cubes!

Luke taught himself to solve a rubicks cube (all the sides, not just one side) by studying a YouTube video for over a month. He figured out the algorithms and solved it by himself without a video on December 9th. We don’t know what’s more impressive - that he can solve a rubicks cube in about one minute as an 8 year old, or the remarkable determination and dedication he had to teach himself. His math teacher can solve them and during math class all the third grade kids would bring him their Rubicks cubes to solve.  He would have 30 of them lined up to solve during his math class.  Now that Luke (who is the only kid in his elementary school) can solve it, Mr. Teisinger has delegated some of this workload to Luke. :)  He even had Luke come to the front of the class and demonstrate how to solve it by putting it under the document camera that feeds the smart board.  So in front of the entire class, it was shown on the big screen and according to his buddy, Liam, Luke speedily solved the Rubicks cube to the awe and amazement of his classmates. :)  Luke's friends who aren't in his math class now bring theirs to him to have him solve it. I told Luke he could probably turn it into a business opportunity - perhaps $0.50 per solve?  He was solving 4-5 a day at this point, which could bring in $12.50 per school week.  Then he wouldn't be hounding me for cash all of the time!

**UPDATE:  Since the time I started this post, multiple kids have also learned to solve the Rubicks cube.  Luke mentioned that it was a little bit of a bummer because now he wasn't the only one in the school who could solve it anymore.  But he's over that and has moved on to solving a pyramid cube and also has a 4x4 Rubicks that he taught himself to solve.  And the latest....a 5x5 he got for his 9th birthday!
