Crazy Luke

I feel like I've named other posts "Crazy Luke."  Maybe I have... In the past 2 days Luke has decided to pull Ben around by his feet.  Ben doesn't seem to mind, he just goes with it.  Luke will drag him all over the carpet in the living room.  And then he drags him into the coat closet and closes the door on him (lights out).  This is where I get a little uncomfortable with the game.  :)  I haven't witnessed this yet, only Paul and Grandpa Ernie have.  Ben is a good sport, but he's getting sick of the closet part, so going forward, Luke will have to modify his game to eliminate dragging Ben into the closet and shutting the door. Grandpa Ernie came today to watch the boys while I went to Jake's Pizza.  Before he got here I told Luke we had to change his poopy diaper.  He asked  Why?   I told him Grandpa Ernie doesn't want to change your stinky diaper.   Luke responded, He's a nice guy.   He repeated it a few times and then affirmed that he meant

To Luke

Lukey, I have to capture some bits and pieces of your character as a 2 1/2 year old.  So here goes: You love bouncy balls.  You have close to 45 bouncy balls.  Every time we go to the gas station or Jahnke's grocery store you bring a quarter or two from your bucket and can't WAIT to get a bouncy ball.  You see the ones on the top that you like and tell me "Mom, I want that one."  I try to explain we don't get to choose which one comes out and that the ones on the top are most definitely not going to make it out with this quarter or your next 50 quarters.  Sometimes you are ecstatic with the ball that comes out - maybe it's a totally new color or design - and you look at it and hold it and feel it, then put it immediately in your pocket (you never actually bounce them).  A second later you take it back out and admire it, then stuff it back in your pocket.  You say, "Mom, that's a cool bouncy ball" or "Mom, that one's really awesome.&q

Random Stuff

Brotherly Love.  Sometimes Luke is overcome with love for his brother, Benny, and just has to smooch him and hug him. Feb 10th was Grandma Annie's birthday.  We celebrated with a cake and Luke blowing out the candles over and over again. Yesterday Luke and I went to Paffrath Ranch, a nearby ranch where there are horse events (like cattle sorting), concessions, and all sorts of fun.  Lots of people ride horses around here.  Luke loved Scarlet the kitty the most.  The "cowboys" were a close second, though.  (Luke watches 'cowboy shows' with his uncle Pete...i.e., Bonanza).  Anyone with a cowboy hat on was a cowboy.  Makes sense.  Luke said, "Mom, look at that cowboy!"  The door would open and another guy would walk in and Luke would say, "Mom, there's 'nyother cowboy!"  "And 'nyother cowboy!"  Luke could have stayed forever.  We ended up having to leave after 2 hours because my left eye started to swell shut and a goo

Ben is 9 months old

Image
Ben turned 9 months old on Feb 1.  Just as I anticipated when I posted about Ben turning 8 months old, I love 9 month Ben like crazy!  He just keeps getting better and better.  Meet Ben at 9 months: --Ben is crawling!  He can get around pretty well, although we haven't put baby gates in front of any stairs quite yet. --He is dancing (waving a hand to the beat) and rocking back and forth when any music comes on. --He just started clapping. --His top right tooth popped through a few days ago (his third tooth) and his top left is quite possibly through, too...but Ben won't let us get our finger in there to feel. --He can stand pretty well.  He will stand against furniture and often will stand without hanging onto anything for a few seconds.  He is pulling himself up on his own. --We lowered his crib mattress b/c he has started to pull himself up by the crib rails. Grandpa Dave found him on his knees pulling himself up in the crib this week.  It wouldn't have been long b

Ben surprises Uncle Joe!

Paul is in Bismark for work Mon-Wed this week.  Last night, uncle Joe kindly agreed to watch the boys while I left for a one hour exercise class.  I changed Ben's diaper right before leaving.  (I should mention that Ben has been battling constipation for about a month.  We've been giving him pear juice and it has helped soften things up, but he still struggles).  Well, last night he surprised Joe and had his first blow out in weeks...an "up the back, throw away the onesie" blowout.  Uncle Joe experienced his very first diaper change and unfortunately "it was nasty" (as Luke says).  He handled it without complaint and expertly put on another diaper.  What an uncle!  He's an amazing uncle to our boys...and now he can do it all!  THANKS UNCLE JOE!

Dance Moves

Ben started to dance today.  We were rocking out to some Cold Play ("Paradise") and Building 429 ("Where I Belong").  Great songs (youtube them both if you can).  Ben was in his high chair, rocking back and forth to the beat and waving his hand in the air.  Next time I will capture it on video.  For now, just imagine. :)
