Ben is 9 months old
Ben turned 9 months old on Feb 1. Just as I anticipated when I posted about Ben turning 8 months old, I love 9 month Ben like crazy! He just keeps getting better and better. Meet Ben at 9 months:
--Ben is crawling! He can get around pretty well, although we haven't put baby gates in front of any stairs quite yet.
--He is dancing (waving a hand to the beat) and rocking back and forth when any music comes on.
--He just started clapping.
--His top right tooth popped through a few days ago (his third tooth) and his top left is quite possibly through, too...but Ben won't let us get our finger in there to feel.
--He can stand pretty well. He will stand against furniture and often will stand without hanging onto anything for a few seconds. He is pulling himself up on his own.
--We lowered his crib mattress b/c he has started to pull himself up by the crib rails. Grandpa Dave found him on his knees pulling himself up in the crib this week. It wouldn't have been long before he went right over.
--He puts his head on mom or dad's shoulder and smiles shyly when people are around.
--He is getting more stubborn and independent. He refuses to let me feed him anything. He wants to do it on his own. If I try to feed him spoonfuls of mashed potatoes, for example, he screams at me and grabs for the spoon or pushes my hand away, so I have to put globs of mashed potatoes on the high chair tray so he can pick them up himself. Today after church I grabbed a doughnut hole and tried to give him little bites. He screamed loudly, pushed my hand out of his face, and grabbed for the doughnut. I gave it to him. He proceeded to eat the entire doughnut hole by himself - and then he ate a second one. Here he is eating a Popover at The Oaks in Willmar. I tried to give him bites, but he insisted on eating it like a big boy.
--He 'talks' a lot now. When he is excited or wants to communicate he says "ooooh" and "ohhhh". It's so cute, I wish I could capture it on video.
--He continues to find pleasure in touching and feeling door knobs, pounding spoons on the floor or his high chair tray, touching the little red light on our dust buster, or slapping his palm on a table top. He is in a stage of discovery and notices so many little, neat things that most people never notice. I am rediscovering these things through his eyes. What a gift.
On March 1st we will meet our 10 month old Ben. What will he be doing then?? :)
