Luke's three-and-a-half-year-old loves
Luke loves batman - his batman pajamas, the batman cape I made for him from the batman material we got at the Fabric Warehouse, listening to the batman theme song and singing it.
Luke also loves cowboys and cowboy boots. Cowboy hats, old cowboy songs on the radio, his holster and six shooters. For Halloween this year he will be bat-boy. Not like a baseball bat boy. But a cross between BATman and cowBOY. I guess you could also call it a man-cow, too. He will wear his batman jammies and cape, his holster, guns, cowboy hat, and boots.
We haven't played baseball or golf for months. Luke hardly picked up a baseball bat or golf club all summer long. He has shifted his attention to superheros and Bonanza heros. He uses his jump rope to lasso everything, and he turns everything into a gun: hockey sticks, golf clubs, baseball bats, bendy straws, tools, sticks, or just anything that is shaped in an L and could slightly resemble a gun.
Luke is also falling in love with puzzles. He is great at little 24 piece puzzles and can do them in record breaking time. He will do a puzzle over and over and over without getting bored. It's like he is racing his previous time, trying to set a new personal record. I just gave him a 100 piece puzzle and it is a challenge, but that is what he needs. A challenge. I am also teaching him to play Uno. He does great matching the colors and the numbers, although he always argues with me that a 6 could be turned the other way and pass for a 9. He also insists on keeping all the blue cards to himself, which is fine with me since the object of the game is to get rid of your cards. :)
Luke also LOVES Tom and Jerry, Curious George, and pretty much any TV. Ugh, we are trying to only allow an hour or less a day. But since the boy hasn't napped for over a year, sometimes we both just need a break during the day...so I can get stuff done and he can rest his little mind and body.
Luke loves popcorn. He has started to make it by himself with our air popper. I am actually very impressed. The other night we had a bonfire and Luke wanted popcorn. He walked into the house and before we knew it we heard the Errrrrrrrr of the popcorn popper. When the popper stopped he yelled his usual command, "Mom, come!" I went in to find only a few kernals on the floor. Awesome job, Lukey! I melted the butter and we enjoyed some popcorn by the fire.
Oh, I forgot another big update - we are going to "school," i.e. ECFE (which stands for Early Childhood and Family Education). Benny is in school too...and so is MOM. Every Monday morning we head to Prairie Woods learning center in Spicer from 9-10:30. The first hour is mostly playtime. There are so many neat activities and toys. All the parents are in the room. Then for the last half hour the parents separate from the kids. The first week both Luke and Ben did great - Ben had Luke there to be his comfort, Luke had Ben to watch out for to keep him occupied. At 10:30 the door opened and Luke shuffled Benny out, with his hands placed on Benny's shoulders to lead him. The second week was a little tougher. Ben cried so hard that they had to get me. Once he calmed down I made the mistake of bringing him back into the room. Luke saw me and started to cry, not wanting me to leave. For the last 5 minutes I stayed with him, but he never stopped crying. Hopefully it will continue to go like the first week for the rest of the class.
That's all for now. More to come as Luke's "loves" change. They seem to quickly, as he grows. They went from baseball helmets to bouncy balls and golf balls, then to batman and cowboys and puzzles. He still wants his mama. I know that "love" may change as he grows older. Until then, I will be smooching him, and snuggling him, and holding him tight.
