Cute things Luke says these days...

Yesterday at the dinner table Luke said to me, "Mom, good thing you got that fence up so the army worms can't eat your tomato plants."  Wow, that is a big long adult-like sentence.  He just turned three.  He was really concentrating as he was getting it out, too. (The fence is actually to keep the deer out...the army worms can't be stopped...)

Lately, he has also been saying to me, "Mom, I said to you...." and then he will fill in the sentence with something he has told me in the past.  So for example, he will say, "Mom, I said to you we should go to Shannon's on the boat."  A few minutes before he had told me that we should do that.  Sometimes it is something he said days ago or hours ago, but often it is minutes, or even seconds.  He will say something and then a few seconds later he will say, "Mom, I just said to you we should buy the blue lawn chair for Benny at the hardware 'dore."  And I will respond, "Yep, I remember you saying that." :)  Or me, Luke,  and Paul will all be within 10 feet of each other and he will say something to his dad like "Dad, you're not wearing shoes to work out" and then he will turn to me and say, "I said to dad, you're not wearing shoes to work out.  That's crazy!"  It's so cute.

Luke has been a bit challenging the past few days.  I have had to put my foot down and give him time outs in his room or take special things away from him for a day.  Two days ago we discussed how I was not happy with his behavior and that I was a bit 'crabby' because he had been misbehaving.  So a little later, after our talk, he must have seen a frown on my face when he was about to test me again with his behavior.  He said to me, "Just be happy, Mom!"  He said it again to me yesterday, too!  Related to this, he's also been saying to me, "I'm nice now, Mama" so that he can get a treat or something else he wants.  He doesn't realize behaving 'nicely' is not a singular moment in time....he needs to be nice in general, daily, hourly, by the minute, in order to receive treats or get his toys back.  "Mom, can I have a sucker now?  I'm nice now, Mom."  Or "Mom, I'm nice now.  Can I watch Tom and Jerry?"  Most times, just seconds before he had misbehaved.

I still think everything Luke says is adorable, even if it is amid some misbehavior!
