Preparations for the baby
Check it out.
Not only are Luke and Ben now sharing a room, they are sharing a bed! We knew when the baby came in July, Ben would have to move in with Luke (because we don't want to move Luke into the basement bedroom). I was planning on working on this transition in June, but Benny was showing interest already and Luke was on board, so we gave it a try. It started with Ben coming into Luke's room for story time at night. After the story, he'd happily transition to his crib in his own room for the night. But recently he started wanting to stay. At the same time he was becoming more flexible with sleeping in beds at Grandma and Granpa's houses overnight as well as at sleeping in beds at friend's houses during nap time. So last week we put a crib mattress on the floor next to Luke's bed and he stayed in Luke's room (picture. quite blurry):
Surprisingly they both slept better than ever, although Ben woke up and wanted to go to his crib around 6am. After about 3 nights on the floor in Luke's room we decided to try them in the same bed and they did awesome. It's been about 5 nights now, and if either of them wakes up during the night they usually get out of bed and come to our room rather than screaming for us and waking each other up. We hope this continues to go well so they are completely transitioned and used to it by the time the baby arrives. Hopefully we don't have to get rid of the queen bed and get two twins. Luke seems to like not being alone (one night when Ben got out of bed and left, Luke yelled for him and said to me, I want Benny to come back and sleep with me."), and Ben seems to like being a 'big kid' and getting to sleep in a big bed where he can get in and out on his own.
Yesterday Luke was also preparing Ben for the baby by asking him, "Ben-Ben, can you say baby? Baby? The baby will be your friend, Ben. The baby will be your friend." Luke seems to really understand we are going to have an addition to the family.
We are also hoping to have Ben pottied trained by July. He will be 2 on May 1st. That would mean he'd be trained a full year ahead of when Luke was. Not sure if it will happen, but we've been sitting on the potty a few times each day for the past few days. For as much as Ben loves to wear undies over his diaper, you'd think he'd be ready to get rid of those diapers immediately and just wear the undies. Here is a picture of Benny wearing his undies (and cowboy boots) and snuggling with daddy.
We had our ultrasound this past Tuesday ( I'm 22 weeks pregnant) and the doctor is extremely positive and certain our baby is going to be perfectly healthy. What a blessing. Can't wait to meet him/her in person (as of right now, both Paul and I think it is going to be a boy)!
What do you think?? :)
Goodnight all!
