Bedtime memories

Earlier tonight Paul had tucked the boys in and told them a story (about Jimmy, Roy, and Michael - his made-up characters that have been a part of our bedtime routine for close to 2 years now.  More on those guys another time).  After Paul came out, I went in to spend some precious time with Luke and Ben...snuggling, giving Benny kisses that he wipes off (this becomes another game, as I beg him not to wipe away my smooches!), talking about the highs and lows of our day, and praying.  Suddenly Paul came back in, turned off the fan, and opened up the window.  The fresh, cool Spring breeze came in - it felt SO GOOD after such a long winter.  Paul said he had heard something outside.  An animal.  (He informed me it was just geese).  The little boys lied on their tummies, peering out of the window, as silent as can be, listening for whatever animal might be roaming around our woods.

Benny said, "Maybe it was a T Rex!"

Oh man, he is so cute.  Paul couldn't help but squeeze him and laugh. His little 2 year old and 40 pound body.  His blond hair and bright green eyes.  His stuffed animal monkey, with a pair of underwear on, snuggled in close to him.  He twirls my hair.  It feels so good.  I wish his little chubby 2 year old hands could twirl my hair forever.

Luke speaks in fascination about the stars and says, "can you believe that we can actually see space from here?  That is so cool."

Benny continues to say "What was out there, daddy?"  "What was it?"

We discuss how Benny loves the outdoors: working, running, playing, discovering.  Tonight Benny was outside in the fresh, Spring air, playing and golfing and working hard.  Paul commented how Benny is a mountain man like his uncle Joe.  Then I commented, but Luke is also so much like his uncle Joe.  We discuss how, at the same time Benny was outside, Luke was inside, on the floor in his room, intensely creating a masterpiece Lego Batman helicopter.  He can build things, use his hands, follow directions but also figure things out without directions, figure out how things work.  They each have a valuable quality resembling their uncle Joe.  Pretty cool.

UConn just won the NCAA basketball tournament.  Paul had them losing in the first round in his pool.  Ha!  They were a #7 seed, in his defense.

Good night.  Here's to a 70 degree day this week - the first since October!
