Luke turned 8 years old on March 29th. And just 3 days before that, his mother (me), turned FORTY. I'm not sure which is blowing my mind more! I can't believe my baby is 8 and I can't believe that I am 40 when I feel (and obviously LOOK) like I am still 20. ;)
Paul and Hannah pulled off a MAJOR surprise 40th birthday party the Thursday before my birthday (which was on Sunday, March 26th). Paul told me on Wednesday night that he had a little surprise for my birthday: He had arranged for his parents to watch our kids so we could go out to dinner with Pete, Eryn, Joe, and Hannah the next night. We went out to the Green Mill in Willmar and had a blast and I had NO CLUE that the surprise was yet to come. After dinner and drinks the waitress told us she didn't mean to rush us but there was another reservation at our corner booth at 7pm. So we paid our bills and I thought we would head home. But Joe and Hannah were going to meet some friends at The Oaks and said we should come too, since we had a babysitter. Of course I wanted to go home to see my babies before they went to bed, but I didn't give much push-back for some reason. We got to the Oaks and Paul and I ran to the bathroom. Then Hannah and Eryn met us by the bar and said that Pete and Joe had gone into one of the big event rooms to talk to someone so we headed in the room to meet them. And SURPRISE (understatement) I was greeted by my entire family, my dearest friends, my KIDS, and a room full of balloons, presents, and decorations. I had no clue. Not a single clue. It was humbling to be celebrated by friends and family that came from near and far on a Thursday night. They had to get babysitters, and drive long distances (some). I have never been the recipient of a surprise party, and wow, it was SO fun and SO honoring and SO humbling. Thanks to all the precious people that came and stayed so late to celebrate with me.
Hannah was insistent on taking a ton of pictures (generally not my favorite thing in the world, as many know), and I am so thankful to her for capturing the evening in pictures. I studied the pictures over the next few days, and what I noticed above all else was how Hannah captured the joy and laughter and happiness I felt. In almost every picture I was laughing or had the biggest smile on my face. The evening was a blessing, yet it had to come to an end. But the pictures that were captured will remind me of that amazing night and will continue to bless me for the rest of my life.
