Club Champion
Paul became a member of the Little Crow golf course this summer. He hasn't been a member since we moved to this area, until this year (little kids = not enough time to golf)! Last Saturday was the club championship and he only found out about it a few days prior. He went out to battle on 27 holes. He shot a 40 on the first 9 holes (four over) and a 37 on the second 9 holes (1 over), to go into the last 9 holes 5 over. Me, the kids, Hannah, and Dutch ran/biked over to the course and saw Paul when he was 5 over, going into the final 9 holes. He was tired and didn't think he was in the running, and because Ben was tired and wanted to leave, we ran/biked back home with the thought that we would go back for the end of the tournament if Ben was up for it. Well, he wasn't. :) So the kids were playing in driveway after we ate supper, and I hopped into the hot tub with my book. I got a text message from my friend Jennifer, who was at the course, and all it said was "Paul won." I was in the process of texting back "You're kidding, right?" when my phone rang and it was Paul. He was pretty pumped and even a bit emotional from the draining day, but he told me with disbelief that he had won it! I was SO EXCITED FOR HIM, yet SO BUMMED we weren't there to watch. He didn't text message us to come over because he didn't really know that he was close to winning it, he wasn't sure where he sat as he approached the last few holes. So I yelled to the kids, "GET IN THE VAN!" as I hopped out of the hot tub and ran in the house to get dressed. We cruised over to the course and celebrated the HUGE win! Paul has played in just a few tournaments in his life, and he often is in the top 5, but never has come close to actually winning. This was a HUGE deal for him and all of us! Pete had joined Paul in his cart a few holes into the last 9 and was there to keep him calm and say all the right things. :) Dave and Ann were already in bed but when Pete called them to tell them the news, they suddenly showed up at the course to celebrate with us! It was such a cool experience and we are so proud of Paul! Luke was especially proud...he couldn't stop smiling and saying, "I can't believe Dad won it!" Here are some pictures of the champ. :)
