Tooth #2

Ben got his second tooth (bottom right) on Nov 5th.  6 months old and 2 teeth, little munchkin.  He also had his 6 month appointment this past week.  He weighs 21 lbs and 7 1/2 oz (96th percentile).  Here he is, just relaxing on the comfy rocker....in his size 18 month clothes.  :)

Mornings

Image
For the first 2 1/2 years of Luke's life I was a working mom.  I had a pit in my stomach every weekday morning, often having to wake Luke to quickly dress him and rush him into the car to get to daycare.  The pit in my stomach was there because I knew what I was missing each of those mornings.  I was missing our Saturday mornings, the mornings when we could let Luke wake on his own and hear him chatting and cooing happily in his crib, and as he grew older, hear him call for momma or daddy.  On those mornings we would rush into his room and the minute he saw us he would flash the biggest smile and put out his arms for us to grab him.  We'd bring him into our bed and turn on a cartoon (or at his request usually sports center) and snuggle the morning away.  He'd bring his B's (what he called his blankies) and he would take the tassles and rub them on his face for comfort, and then rub them on our faces.  His little hands felt so good on my ...

Goodbye Cottonwood

Image
We recently cut down a huge Cottonwood tree that was wreaking havoc on the entire neighborhood (rumor has it, the cotton from the tree contributed to the demise of our pool).  Normal cost for this service, based on the size of the tree - $1000-2000.  Yikes.  But a friend of Paul's dad who is in this business wanted to do it for just $170.   He worked on it for 3 days.  Luke and I watched it come down from the kitchen window.  It was so loud it sounded like a freight train, or maybe an earthquake.  Luke looked shocked.  He finally found his little voice and just said "wow."  He had a blast playing with the wreckage.

My football player and pumpkin

Here are my little ones dressed up for Halloween (Ben's first Halloween): Last year Luke was too young to understand Halloween and this year when I tried to prep him for the big day he seemed understandably confused.  He just kept repeating "candy" although that was only one of the many words I used to describe the event of trick or treating.  We headed out early.  He looked so confused when we got to each door and people gave him candy.  He didn't once say "trick or treat" and instead of letting people put candy in his plastic pumpkin he would often grab it right out of their hands.  It was really cute.  We went to our pastor's house and Pastor Steve said, "He probably thinks this is pretty cool.  Just put on a costume and people give you candy."  The problem could be that he wears his football "costume" every day - literally - including the shoulder pads, helmet, and spikes.  I'm hoping he won't ask to go out knoc...

The first chopper has popped through...

Tonight at our church Bible Study one of the women who loves Ben (she holds him the entire hour) noticed that he cut his first tooth!  I don't know how long it would have taken me to notice.  Thank you, Shelly!  His bottom left tooth has arrived.
