We're down a couple of Hannigs at the Hannig home

Today was both a sad and exciting day.  We lost two of our roommates, Pete and Eryn, here at the Hannig community.  Our Hannig home feels a little small and lonely.  But I over-exaggerate, because really, we were with them all day today helping them move into their new home and it's only been an hour or two since we last saw them.  Plus, we are so happy and excited for them to have a wonderful home just 2.5 miles from us.  And we still have our neighbor, Joe.  :)

Since last November, 2011, Luke and Ben have had the privilege of living with two of their Hannig uncles, Pete and Joe (although Joe is in his own little guest home next door and not in our house).  We know this time won't last forever, so we relish in this special season of our lives - a season when little boys can have the rare opportunity to live with their uncles and grown brothers can live together again like they did in their childhood.  We do not take this special time for granted.  Unfortunately, I know Ben will not remember this time, but I really hope Luke remembers it.  If not, we will have many pictures and stories to share when looking back at this cherished time.

Our boys adore Pete and Joe and they squeal with excitement when they see them each morning, each night, and anytime in between. It isn't uncommon for Luke to disappear to Joe's house or the basement with Pete for an hour.  I will find him snuggling next to Joe on the couch or sitting in Pete's chair with him.  Luke snuggles with Pete more than anyone.  It also isn't surprising that the only person Ben calls by name (other than "dad") is not mom, but JOE.  At 15 months old, Ben still does not call me mom, but he calls for his uncle Joe by name.  Almost every morning Ben will stand by the front door and wave to Joe as he is getting ready to leave for work, often times without Joe knowing he is there.  When Ben sees either Joe or Pete he will run to them, reach up his arms to them, and go to them like they are a parent.  They are as steady a picture in Ben's life as anything else.

Here are some pictures of the boys and their special uncles from this past year.
Uncle Joe giving Benny a seat on the lawn mower just last week. Ben loved it there so much that he ate his supper on the mower.

Pete spending time with the boys...he is never too busy to spend time with his nephews.
